弗瑞德想要迎娶单身母亲玛拉，可玛拉的儿子林瑞斯却并不喜欢他。为了讨好林瑞斯，弗瑞德不得不假扮残疾人，从而有机会在联盟篮球赛的残疾人专座席上赢取每场赛后由球星掷出的签名篮球。当他如愿为林瑞斯抢到那只篮球，他成为了当晚的明星。然而随之而来的媒体大肆渲染和追踪报道，让弗瑞德精疲力竭，同时陷入了拥有尴尬的双重身份的生活。经历一系列狼狈不堪的事件后，他终于摆脱了自己造成的困境，并最终获取真爱。
