The lure of rail travel has always had a romantic air, however
behind the scenes of the great railways there were many small
narrow gauge railways around the world with their own form of
gritty romance. Since the early 1800s, these tiny trains have
plied their way through impossible terrain to link remote
settlements with main cities. This series of programs
encapsulates all of the spirit that is associated with the great
little trains of the world.
This fascinating documentary shows how a small gauge train from
Tasmania-servicing the Bush Mill line south of Port Arthur-was
transported to England in 1993 to operate on the beautiful
Ravenglass-Eksdale line and the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch line,
the smallest public railway in the world. Encapsulating the
spirit and charm associated with the great little trains of the
world, this episode is filled with daring human endeavour,
colourful scenery, engineering feats and remarkable characters.
